Rental accommodation in Leicestershire can often be costly, insecure or poorly maintained. Homeshare Leicestershire aims to remedy that through homes built on mutual benefit and kindness.

Homesharers move into a homeowners property to provide 10 hours a week of support such as:

  • Household & Garden Tasks

  • Assistance with pets

  • Overnight Security

  • Transport

  • Trips outside the home

  • Help with IT & Technology

  • Friendship

In return for safe, well maintained and affordable accommodation.

How do I apply to homeshare?

Initially, fill out an application form and tell us why you think you would be a good homesharer. What skills, experience and interests you have that make you a someone our homeowners would like to live with.

If one of our homeowners would like to meet you, we will complete DBS (criminal record) and reference checks before arranging for you to meet the homeowner at their property.

Should you both agree to meet again, you can arrange to meet up and spend some time getting to know each other before you commit to a trial period of 1 month. You will also be required to complete an online safeguarding vulnerable adults’ course before you commit to becoming a homesharer.

How long can I homeshare for?

As long as you want! All we ask is that you give one months’ notice to vacate the property so we can assist the homeowner in finding an alternative homesharer or source alternative support.

How much does Homeshare cost?

Homesharing is free. It is an agreement of mutual benefit which means that both parties share their skills or resources for the benefit of each other. However, in order to oversee the administration, safeguarding and quality of the arrangement, a fee of £35 per week is payable to Homeshare Leicestershire by the homesharer commencing on your moving in date. You will also be liable for any Council Tax costs, although all other utility bills such as water, gas, electricity, TV Licence, Internet and phone are gifted to you as part of this arrangement.

Charges for homeshare arrangements are subject to the Tenant Fees act 2019. Follow the link for more info.

Can I Homeshare if I am in receipt of benefits?

Homeshare Leicestershire welcomes applications from people in receipt of benefits as long as the applicant can prove they have the means to pay for their accommodation charges. If you are reliant on housing benefit to pay your housing costs, please note that unfortunately DWP does not contribute toward homeshare arrangements.

Do Homesharers have to be single?

You can apply to homeshare as single or a couple, however we do not accept homesharers with children under the age of 18 for safeguarding reasons.

Are Homesharers allowed to keep pets?

Of course! However, each homeowner and homesharer will have their own preference regarding the type and number of pets they will accept.

Can I bring my own furniture with me?

Homeshare properties generally come furnished with a bed and storage units, however each agreement is different and homeowners could consider accommodating homesharers furniture if required.

What ongoing support does Homeshare Leicestershire provide?

You can expect Homeshare Leicestershire to be there for you throughout your homeshare experience. We will support you with regular phone calls and visits to make sure that your arrangement remains positive.

You will be provided with a homesharers handbook of information and policy and a phone number to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require immediate advice or guidance.
